Mary Roby Sanders

Mary Roby Sanders is a Partner at Turnbull, Nicholson & Sanders, P.A. and practices exclusively in family law. She is widely recognized for her professionalism, judgment, and long-standing contributions to the Maryland family law community.

Mary represents clients in complex family law matters, including divorce, custody, support, and high-asset disputes. She is known for her thoughtful, measured approach and her ability to navigate sensitive matters with discretion and care, helping clients move forward with clarity and confidence.

Mary earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor, with honors, from the University of Maryland. She is an AV Preeminent-rated attorney and a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She has also served in significant leadership roles, including as Past Chair of the Family Law Section Council of the Maryland State Bar Association, and has contributed to the legal community through committee service and involvement in judicial and professional initiatives.

Throughout her career, Mary has received numerous prestigious honors recognizing her excellence and leadership in family law. She is the recipient of the Beverly A. Groner Family Law Award. Baltimore County awarded Mary the J. Earle Plumhoff Professionalism Award in 2012. In 2023 Mary was awarded the National Professionalism Award from the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She has been consistently recognized as a Maryland Super Lawyer since 2005, named to the Top 100 Maryland Super Lawyers and Top 50 Women Maryland Super Lawyers lists since 2014, and was selected as a Top 10 Maryland Super Lawyer and Top 5 Family Law Maryland Super Lawyer for 2026 and was featured on the cover of the Super Lawyers Magazine statewide.

Mary has also been recognized by The Daily Record as a Top 100 Women in Maryland on two occasions. In addition, she was a Leadership in Law Honoree and has been included among Best Lawyers in America. In addition to her legal work, she has contributed to broader conversations about family law and the court system, including being featured in the documentary Erasing Family. Mary chaired the MSBA Family Law Section for 12 years and organized and presented over 100 educational seminars.
