Christopher W. Nicholson is a Partner at Turnbull, Nicholson & Sanders, P.A. and has been a trusted family law attorney in Maryland for more than four decades. He represents clients in complex and high-conflict family law matters, including divorce, custody, support, property division, and cases involving business interests and high-value assets.
Chris is known for his ability to guide clients through emotionally charged situations with clarity, experience, and steady judgment. He takes a personalized approach to every matter, ensuring that clients understand their options and feel confident in the decisions they make throughout the process.
Chris earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he served as a Legislation Editor for the Law Review. Chris’ articles have been published in both the Law Review and the Maryland State Bar Journal. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Delaware. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Marshall A. Levin in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Chris has held numerous leadership roles within the Maryland State Bar Association and other professional organizations, including serving as Past Chair of the Family and Juvenile Law Section Council. He has also contributed to the development of family law practice in Maryland through his work as co-editor of the Family Law Chapter of the Maryland Practice Manual and his involvement in judicial committees and training programs.
Chris is a frequent lecturer and author on family law topics and has taught and presented extensively across Maryland and nationally. He has also testified before the Maryland General Assembly on family law legislation and has served as adjunct faculty at both the University of Baltimore School of Law and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
He has received numerous professional honors, including the Beverly Groner Family Law Award and the J. Earle Plumhoff Professionalism Award. Chris has been recognized as a Maryland Super Lawyer since 2008 and has been named to the Top 100 list since 2013. He is AV Preeminent rated and is widely respected for his professionalism, leadership, and long-standing contributions to the family law community. Chris has consistently been recognized by Best Lawyers and was selected in both 2021 and 2023 as Lawyer of the Year in Family Law, Baltimore.
